How much does live-in care cost?
Live-in care costs start at around £1,000 a week or £4,000 a month. For comparison, the average cost of a care home is approximately £1,250 a week or £5,000 a month.
While live-in care can be more affordable than residential care, the real value comes from one-to-one support, continuity and the comfort of remaining at home.

What are the live-in care options?
Country Cousins offers three main types of live-in care:
- Standard live-in care
For individuals or couples who need day-to-day support at home - Advanced live-in care
For individuals or couples with more complex medical or personal care requirements - Night support
For those who need help, reassurance or supervision throughout the night
Each service is tailored to the individual, ensuring you only pay for the level of care required.
What costs are involved in live-in care?
All details are agreed in advance so you know exactly what to expect before committing to anything.
Costs typically include the following:
Lifetime registration fee
We charge a one-off registration fee when you register with us. This covers our initial consultation, set-up requirements and helps maintain an active pool of carers able to provide care in as little as 48 hours.
Carer fee
We offer guidance around the recommended rates for a carer’s service. As all Country Cousins carers are self-employed, they will invoice you directly for their services, and you are responsible for paying the carer at the end of each week.
Agency fee
The agency fee is charged by Country Cousins to ensure we continue to match our clients with suitable and trusted live-in carers on an ongoing basis.
Travel allowance
Carers charge for the cheapest method of travel to your home, whether this is a second-class return rail ticket or current HMRC mileage rates. All travel expenses will be agreed before care begins.
Bank holidays
Bank Holiday rates for both carers and Country Cousins vary. This is standard across the care sector.
Additional components
In some cases, extra help may be required overnight. Carers may charge a waking fee if they are required to be awake and alert during the night. Clients are also typically expected to cover the cost of the carer’s food and household utilities (energy, wifi and other living costs).
