Becoming a live-in carer with Country Cousins

Become a live-in carer with Country Cousins Country Cousins is an introductory home care agency. Our role is to match the best Cousin to the client. In order to become a Cousin, you need a passion for caring. To you, this isn’t just a live-in care job - it’s a vocation.

Not only must you be a competent carer, you need to be a homemaker and comfortable in the kitchen. You should be able to fit in effortlessly with the client’s home life and have an excellent disposition, as well as the ability to become a friend and companion to those who share your client’s life.

You will be responsible for working independently and unsupervised in the client’s home, and so the ability to cope with various degrees of dependency and medical needs is fundamental. You may be called upon to provide Alzheimer’s or dementia care and quite often you will need to work alongside other care agencies or medical professionals including Marie Curie, Macmillan and District Nurses.

Whilst all our Country Cousins are unique, they share some common values:

  • They have a passion for enhancing their clients’ lives and enabling them to stay in their own home.
  • They want to fit well into the client’s home whilst maintaining full respect for their client’s personal space and precious belongings.
  • They want to ensure that they deliver the best possible private home care and that they have attended the latest training.
  • They have the ability to work closely with the client and their representatives and family to provide the best possible service, taking the lead when necessary.
  • They are professionals and proud of this!

As our Cousins work independently within a client’s own home it is essential that we complete a robust selection process. This includes a face-to-face interview, Induction process, reference checks and a DBS and or PVG (criminal records checks).

To be shortlisted for interview you will need to meet the following criteria in full:

  • Proof of Eligibility to work in the UK
  • Agreement to complete the relevant DBS/PVG checks
  • A minimum of 6 months’ experience in a regulated care environment
  • 2 Professional References, one must be from your current or previous employer
  • Evidence of professional development including any training certificates.

The training required is:

  • Manual Handling
  • Basic First Aid
  • Safeguarding of Vulnerable Adults

  • Same carers for a long time...

We've been fortunate in having the same carers for a long time which aids the quality of care considerably as they are familiar with our mothers needs. This is especially important for dementia care.

  • The food is always good...

The various careers prepare different meals but always in accordance with my fathers wishes but respecting his diabetic condition. The food is always good.

  • Our current carers are great...

Our current carers (Terri and Alison) are great - providing companionship as well as keeping my mother safe.

  • A great blessing to us

On behalf of my brother and myself, and indeed all our family, I should like to record the debt we owe the Country Cousins who came to care for both our parents over the past 2 years. Without the help of Country Cousins, Mum and Dad could not have stayed in their own home and this they so dearly wished to do, it was a great blessing to us all that this became a reality.

  • Very professional and extremely caring

I would like to say that the Country Cousins, who cared for my wife until she died, were very professional and extremely caring and kind during the time they were here. I would like to say thank you, at Country Cousins, for sending them in our time of need.

  • Very pleased and happy in her care

Can you kindly note that I was very happy with the Country Cousin who came to look after my mother and she was very happy in her care too. Very reassuring to know that she was in the capable hands of someone you could trust.

  • Enjoyed Country Cousins support

I have now enjoyed the support of your Country Cousins and I would like you to know that of 6 1/2 years of having to need care, these two ladies, though very different in character, they are both splendid carers in their own way.

  • You never let us down

Thank you to you all at Country Cousins for the support you have given us over the last four years. You have never let us down over the years, we have met some interesting and caring people. We have no hesitation in recommending you to other people.
